Review: Viceroy Washington D.C.

The prime location in D.C.'s downtown, combined with Viceroy's always-elevated service, make this a top choice that won’t break the bank.

What's the scoop with this place?
Viceroy has no shortage of D.C. properties (the company essentially kicked off the boutique hotel trend in these parts), but Viceroy in downtown D.C. earns bragging rights as our favorite. The vibe is decidedly distinguished, like the digs of a funky but well-bred beau: Walk in to the lobby, and you’re hit with a full-frontal bookshelf, set against an inlaid wood wall and accompanied by soft, sturdy woolen armchairs, perfect for reading the Sunday paper.

The good stuff: Tell us about your room.
With a sleek residential feel (it was formerly an apartment building), Viceroy’s 178 guest rooms are larger than many other options in town. They’re outfitted in masculine woods and leather, with accents of grey and brown. Splurge on an Executive King Studio for your very own Chesterfield-inspired loveseat, neatly dressed in slate velvet.

How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Anything of note?
Bath amenities are from Atelier Bloem.

How are the dining options at the hotel?
If you just got into town and you’re looking for a bite, ride down the elevator to Radiator. The place serves up grub in the spirit of mid-century D.C.—when the blocks were lined with fix-up garages and mom-and-pop shops—with its large checkerboard floors and industrial accents, but the food is a little more forward-thinking. Try the lamb belly tacos, spiced up with mint, tzatziki, and curried chickpeas, and chase it with a well-crafted cocktail like the Ricotta Situation, made with mahia fig spirit, ricotta (yes, ricotta!), lemon, raw honey, and vanilla.

Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you.
Don’t miss the rooftop oasis when the weather’s nice—it's an area hot spot.

Bottom line: worth it, and why?
The prime location combined with Viceroy's always-elevated service make this a top choice that won’t break the bank.
