Ideal time to visit in Amarnath
June to September is a good time to visit Amarnath, as the famous Amarnath Yatra starts from June to September, coinciding with the holy month of Shravan. Pilgrims from all over the country come here in large numbers to participate in it.
How to reach Amarnath:
By Flight: The trek to Amarnath starts from Pahalgam and the nearest airport from Pahalgam is in Srinagar which is about 90 km away. Apart from this, Jammu airport is also another option which is about 263 kilometers away. Srinagar and Jammu airports are connected to almost all major cities of the country.
By Train: The Jammu Tawi railhead is 178 kilometres from Amarnath. You can take a local taxi to reach Baltal, from where you can start your trek to Amarnath, which will take around 1 to 2 days to complete the 15-kilometer distance. Take air related services, walk on foot, or get a pony ride to directly reach the temple from here.
By Road: Travel to Jammu by road, then to Srinagar, and finally to Baltal or Pahalgam. The shortest trek to Amarnath is Baltal, while an easier one is the Pahalgam trek. Take the Pahalgam trek if you are travelling with families and older people. The walking distance from Baltal to Amarnath Yatra is 15 km, making it a 1-2 day trek, whereas the Pahalgam to Amarnath trek takes 3-5 days to cover 36-48 km.
On arrival at Srinagar airport (on your own), meet our representative and drive directly to Sonmarg. The 115 Km journey will take about 3.5 hours. The rest of the day is free in Sonmarg for acclimatisation and preparation for the trip to Amarnath Cave the next day. Dinner and an overnight stay will be in Sonmarg.
After an early breakfast, drive to Baltal to board to Panchtarni through air related service. The holy cave is 6 kilometres away from Panchtarni. The route ascends right up to the cave. Have a dip in the ice-cold water of Amarnath stream, which flows outside the cave. Inside the cave, there is a peaceful scene of three massive Lingams standing erect as symbols of Lord Shiva, Parvathi, and Ganesh. After darshan, trek back to Panchtarni or ride back to Baltal or Sonamarg. From here, drive to Srinagar. Dinner and an overnight stay will be in Srinagar.
After breakfast, depart for a full-day excursion to Gulmarg (Meadows of Flowers). Enjoy stunning snow-capped peaks and a gondola ride (up to the first level) late in the afternoon, then drive back to Srinagar. On reaching it, cover the sightseeing scheduled for Mughal Gardens, visiting Nishat Bagh (Abode of Pleasure), built by Asif Khan, the brother-in-law of Jehangir, in 1632 AD. And Jehangir's Shalimar Bagh (Abode of Love), which he built for his wife, Empress En route, visit a carpet-weaving factory. Dinner and overnight will be at the hotel in Srinagar.
After breakfast, enjoy a shikara ride on Dal Lake, visiting floating markets and vegetable gardens. After that, transfer to Srinagar airport to catch a flight to your next destination.
